Francis Byron DeWitt (1849-1929) autograph signed legal document 1889

He enlisted as a Drummer Boy with the 46th Ohio Volunteer Infantry at age 12 and served during the Battle of Shiloh and the Corinth campaign.

In 1862 he reenlisted with the 121st Ohio Volunteers and served the duration of the war, partially as a prisoner of war in Salisbury, Danville, and Libby prison.

After the Civil War he worked as a lawyer and state congressman in both Ohio and Michigan.
