State of Indiana legal document, autograph signed by Indiana and Ohio lawyer
Lambdin P. Milligan, the anti-Civil War Peace Democrat who strongly opposed President Lincoln and defended the Southern States rights to secede from the Union. He was a leader in the secret Knights of the Golden Circle (later Sons of Liberty) and was imprisoned and tried for treason in 1864.
This document was signed by Milligan just a few months after his trial and release in April of 1866.
