Exceedingly rare Harvard Athletic Association wax seal
Membership certificate for John Underhill, Sr. who was an American translator, author and an early advocate for bringing European theatrical works to American audiences. He was a member of Harvard’s Class of 1896 and became known for translating the works of Spanish playwrights, including plays by Lope de Vega and Pedro Calderón de la Barca. His son, John Garrett Underhill Jr., later became a CIA agent known for his alleged connections to the JFK assassination controversy.
Autograph signed by then secretary George Richmond Fearing Jr. who was a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy. He was the son of Col. George Richmond Fearing (1839-1920) who was President of the Knickerbocker Club and was involved with the Newport Artillery during the Civil War. Col. Fearing also contributed to civic development, co-founding the Newport Casino, an important social center in Rhode Island society at the time.
