who raised the Mifflin Guards group of PA Volunteers for US service

commissioned to Lieutenant Colonel of the 100th Regiment (2nd Brigade, 3rd Division)

effective August 3rd, 1811

and autograph signed by Pennsylvania Governor, Simon Snyder

 

Samuel Anderson (1773-1850)

  • Appointed by President John Adams as surgeon's mate in the Navy.
  • Raised the Mifflin Guards group of volunteers for the War of 1812, serving at Fort DuPont and later promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the One Hundredth Regiment, Second Brigade, Third Division in 1811.
  • Assigned to West Indies Squadron under Commodore Porter, then served as surgeon on the USS Hornet and USS Decoy.
  • Served in Pennsylvania House of Representatives and as Speaker of the House

Simon Snyder (1759-1819)

  • Established Selinsgrove gristmill

  • Establishment Harrisburg as the state capitol.
  • Vice Presidential nominee in the 1816 presidential election
