Original early 19th-century stampless postal cover from Georgia’s political and legal history, addressed to the eminent Charles Harris, Esq. (1772–1827). An English-born jurist who became one of Savannah’s most influential citizens, Harris served three terms as the Mayor of Savannah (1802–1804 and 1807–1808) and was a founding figure in the development of the Georgia legal system. His legacy is permanently memorialized in the naming of Harris County, Georgia.
The cover features authentic period manuscript postal markings and reflects the correspondence of a man who famously drafted Georgia's first criminal code and served as counsel in the landmark 1820s Antelope Supreme Court case.
